Ponysaurus Brewing Co. is a forward-thinking, backward-tasting brewery, creating beers that are meant to be savored, appreciated, contemplated, philosophized, studied, nuzzled, and mindfully guzzled. 

Our brewery, taproom and beer garden is located in the Downtown East neighborhood of Durham and our beers are distributed throughout the state of North Carolina.

OUR STORY

A lot of breweries get their start in a garage. But we’re pretty sure Ponysaurus is the only one that started in an attic. And besides that tiny space above the entrance to The Cookery in Durham, NC (and the scissor lift we used to access it), the only other thing we started with was gumption. To think that maybe we could make great beers for people who take beer seriously, and not much else. 

From that passionate little beginning in 2015, a forward-thinking brewery and taproom has hatched.


OUR BREWERY
Forward-thinking and backward-tasting

Our 6,000 square foot brewery specializes in a combination of traditional and experimental American, Belgian and European style beers, yielding an approach that can be described as forward-thinking and backward-tasting. Operating from a fifteen barrel brewhouse, the production facility is equipped with a state of the art lab, a full time lab technician that carries out a comprehensive sensory analysis program, advanced fermentation technology, and a Wild Goose canning line.

Our beer is sold and distributed in kegs, 4-packs of 16oz. cans and specialty release bottles, in addition to highly limited quantities of barrel aged products that are offered seasonally,


OUR OWNERS

DAVID BALDWIN 
David, one of the most awarded copywriters and creative directors in the advertising business today, is the founder of Baldwin&. David is the former chairman of the One Club in NYC, and his advertising work has been recognized by Cannes, One Show, D&AD, Clios, Effies and more. His film work (Art & Copy, The Loving Story) won two Emmys and a Peabody Award. David is the author of the Amazon Best Seller The Belief Economy: How to Give a Damn, Stop Selling, and Create Buy-In.

NICK HAWTHORNE-JOHNSON
Nick is a partner of Cast Iron Group, a hospitality group that encompasses a variety of businesses and partnerships with his wife, Rochelle Johnson, that includes The Cookery, Dashi, Soomsoom Pita Pockets and Ponysaurus Brewing Co. Nick is currently the Operations Director of Ponysaurus, overseeing the taproom, brewery production and sales.
