Don't Be Mean to People

DON’T BE MEAN TO PEOPLE

A GOLDEN RULE SAISON BENEFITTING EQUALITY NC & QORDS LGBTQ SUMMER CAMP

ABOUT THE BEER & THE FUND:

Let’s start at the beginning: In 2016, North Carolina signed House Bill 2 (HB2) into law requiring transgender people to use restrooms that corresponded to their sex at birth. We believed that bill violated Golden Rule #000001.

We decided to do something about it. Teaming up with 40+ NC brewers, we created Don't Be Mean to People: A Golden Rule Saison. To this day, each beer sold fundraises for Equality NC and Queer Oriented Radical Days of Summer (QORDS), an organization that leads camping trips for queer and transgender youth.

Don't Be Mean to People not only tastes delicious with notes of tangerine, white pepper, and banana, but is a friendly reminder that being friendly together yields some pretty amazing things.

More recently in December 2021, we launched the Lt. Governor’s Fund for the Fabulous, reigniting the spirit behind the original campaign after NC’s Lt. Governor said some not very nice things.

But Don’t Be Mean to People believes in the goodness of everyone. So we know in his heart he doesn't believe other North Carolinians are "filth." We’re so sure of it, we’re helping to fund the good work that could be his greatest act in public office. That’s right — a portion of profits from every pint of Don't Be Mean To People will go to help the LGBTQ community grow, thrive, and find acceptance. All in the name of his illustrious title.

Help us help him help us all. Grab a Don’t Be Mean To People and post a toast to the Lt. Governor, thanking him for all the work he’s doing through the #fundforthefabulous.

We’re happy that our funds are supporting EqualityNC’s Rural Youth Empowerment Fellowship.

The Rural Youth Empowerment (RYE) Fellowship is a paid year-long skill-building and leadership development program for LGBTQ young people in rural areas of North Carolina. The program supports RYE Fellows to successfully execute a social justice project serving rural communities while developing skills in community organizing and nonprofit management.

By empowering Southern queer youth and building community through music and the arts, QORDS is a vehicle for expressing gender and sexuality, and harbors an environment of self-discovery and social change.

We are committed to promoting the creativity, affirmation, leadership, abundance and voices of Southern queer youth. We recognize that gender and sexuality are multidimensional concepts that intersect with issues including, but not limited to: institutions, race, class, heritage, ability, documentation status, language, or spirituality. We aim to cultivate intersectional spaces and claim music and arts as a vehicle of queer empowerment.

VOTING is one of the best ways to support the LGBTQ community!
