"Legal Aid of North Carolina: is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services to low-income and vulnerable North Carolinians facing serious civil (non-criminal) legal matters like domestic violence, dangerous housing conditions, predatory lending, consumer scams, public benefits and more. Our clients are generally among the poorest of the poor in our state, and our services are completely free. We serve about 25,000 clients a year throughout all 100 counties in North Carolina. We are North Carolina's only statewide civil legal aid provider, and we are the sole civil legal aid provider in all but a handful of counties. (Two other civil legal aid providers serve limited geographic areas around Asheville and Charlotte.) Our services are needed now more than ever. There are nearly 4 million North Carolinians who are poor enough to qualify for at least some of our services, so we're only able to serve a fraction of the need that is out there."
